Connecting With Others
Youth
When working on your activity/event, don’t forget about the power of numbers! Check around your community to see what other youth might be interested in working with you.
Think about:
Student organizations at school – FCCLA, FFA, SADD, NHS, student government
Faith-based youth groups – Churches, synagogues, mosques
Community-based youth groups – Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, YMCA, YWCA, youth centers
Older youth – college students, nursing students, alumni groups
AdultsAdults can provide support, advice, and experience you’ll need to make your event/activity successful. Before you contact them, make sure you know what kind of help and support you want. Be able to clearly explain what you need!
Think about connecting with these groups of adults:
Parents – parent-teacher associations, booster clubs, school boards, volunteers
School Administrators and Staff Members – principal, dean of students, guidance counselor, school resource officer, school nurse, teachers, support staff
Civic and Religious Leaders – Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, Masons, ministers, clergy
Political Officials – mayor, city council, city staff, local and state legislators
Law Enforcement – police and sheriff departments, fire department, school resource officers
Healthcare Organizations – hospitals, health clinics, school nurses
Local Businesses and Business Leaders
Local Health Departments and Health Agencies
OrganizationsLook beyond your community for support, ideas, advice, and maybe even funding from regional and national organizations. Your first stop should be the
Member Section of the NOYS website, where you can find contact information and links to organizations that are members of the NOYS coalition. These organizations might have resources you can use, and they would welcome the opportunity to be involved in what you’re working to accomplish.
