The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has released a study reporting the results from its most recent National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). The report, based on data from surveys conducted in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005, examines alcohol trends and patterns among 18- to 20-year-old college students. Among its findings: alcohol use rates remained steady between 2002 and 2005, with 57.8 percent of full-time college students reporting past-month alcohol use, 40.1 percent reporting binge drinking, and 16.6 percent reporting heavy alcohol use.
