NOYS Meetings attended, and memories of those events:
Nikki served as a youth member of NOYS from July 1997 to November 2000, and represented three separated organizations during her term.
Nikki served as the National SADD student of the year from July 1997 to July 1998 and represented SADD (along with the incredible Bill Cullinane) at NOYS during her term. From October 1997 to July 1999, Nikki served on the National Safety Council Board of Delegates as a representative from the Youth Division and as part of this role continued her involvement with NOYS. She represented NSC at that time with the amazing Pat Pulte. Finally, from November 1999 to November 2000, Nikki served as the Student Trustee for BACCHUS & GAMMA, and continued her role with NOYS. Nikki got to represent BACCHUS at that time with Mr. Awesome himself, Drew Hunter.
During her time with NOYS, Nikki got to be part of some great NOYS initiatives, from the making of the SPEAK OUT and MAKE NOYS campaign, to the installation of separated youth trainings before the meetings. She also got to intern with NHTSA during the summer of 1998 and work with the dynamic duo at that time of Jim Wright and Cheryl Neverman.
From adults who took time to invest in her, to experiences that opened her ideas to the power that young people can have to make a difference, Nikki’s time with NOYS helped her shaped her vision for her future career.
Why is youth safety and health important to you?
The idealist in Nikki always knew that she wanted to be part of an organization that she believed in and that had a mission she is passionate about. In today’s society, so many young people get the message that they have to settle for less than life’s best for them. Yet, with her work she gets to wake up each morning and be part of something that teaches young people to dream big and that also gives them the tools to accomplish those dreams. What could be better!
